RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE -- UNSPINNING TOM WOLF: DEBATE EDITION
The following is part of a series of real-time responses to the empty rhetoric made by Secretary Tom Wolf during tonight’s Pennsylvania Chamber Gubernatorial debate with Governor Tom Corbett.
RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE
CLAIM:
Secretary Tom Wolf supports raising the minimum wage.
RESPONSE:
According to the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, raising the minimum wage would result in the loss of 28,000 to 119,000 jobs in Pennsylvania over the next decade.
The last time Pennsylvania raised the minimum wage, many employers were forced to reduce hours, perform layoffs and stop hiring.
According the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pennsylvania’s 2007 minimum wage increase created a job shortage, and 1,100 jobs were estimated to have been cut.
