After previously announcing its intention to build in the Carlisle area, Lindt USA, a division of the international chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Sprüngli AG, recently said its distribution center will be located at 40 Logistics Drive, just outside of the borough in South Middleton Township.
The center is expected to bring up to 150 jobs to the area.
“The acquisition of the new warehouse space in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, will allow the company to continue to produce at an increased capacity to meet growing consumer and market demand,” said Thomas Linemayr, president and CEO of Lindt USA. “The new space will also lead to increased logistical efficiencies and will generate up to 150 new jobs in the area.”
Lindt previously said its distribution center will also include a retail store, which will sell Lindt products, including Lindor Truffles. The distribution portion of the facility is expected to be open early next year, while the retail store will be completed during the second phase of the facility updates. The store is expected to open shortly after the distribution center also in early 2015.
South Middleton Township Supervisor Tom Faley said the company is moving along swiftly through the township review process.
The 400,000-square-foot building, which Linemayr said is LEED-certified and features state of the art refrigeration and storage technology, is already built at the location off of Logistics Drive. The company finding an existing location is something that sits well with the township.
“I like the fact that they are (settling) on an existing warehouse rather than building a new one, because a significant amount of warehouse space sits vacant in Cumberland County,” Faley said.
