HRC/CREDC STATEMENT ON LATEST POSITIVE PA JOBS REPORT
Total amount of private sector jobs at highest level ever
HARRISBURG, PA – David Black, President and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corporation (HRC/CREDC), today released the following statement in response to another positive jobs report for Pennsylvania under the Corbett-Cawley administration. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, the state’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.6 percent for the month of May – a five year low and far below the national average of 6.3 percent. Pennsylvania’s total amount of private sector jobs now stands at 5,078,000 -- the highest level ever.
“Today’s unemployment report should surprise few. Governor Tom Corbett has made jobs and building a stronger future for Pennsylvania his highest priority. It was his bold leadership on new legislation, appointment of the Receiver and support of the process that saved Harrisburg, the economic core of our region and the capital of our great Commonwealth. It was the right thing to do. Governor Corbett has consistently put party, ideology and political convenience aside to do the right thing for Pennsylvania and its citizens. Today’s unemployment numbers are another example of doing the right thing for Pennsylvanians.”
