TOM WOLF PROPOSES TRIPLING THE STATE INCOME TAX AND THEN SAYS RAISING TAXES INCREASES POVERTY AND MAKES PEOPLE MOVE AWAY

HARRISBURG -- The Corbett-Cawley campaign today responded to Tom Wolf’s comments where he argues that raising taxes makes it harder to escape poverty and only makes people move away to escape higher taxes. Wolf, coincidentally, is calling for $6 billion in tax increases, including a plan to triple the state’s income tax rate. He made his comments during a recent interview with WHYY NewsWorks.

“At this point, it is safe to say that Tom Wolf truly and sincerely has absolutely no idea what he is talking about or what his plan is for Pennsylvania,” stated Communications Director Chris Pack. “How else can you explain a candidate like Wolf who is running on billions of dollars in tax increases as the foundation of his campaign while also speaking out on the perils of raising taxes? Tom Wolf proves each and every day that he really doesn’t have a plan for Pennsylvania – he just wants to be the governor.”

Wolf’s comments were made last Friday during an interview with WHYY NewsWorks when asked about how his campaign platform would benefit impoverished cities and municipalities. Wolf, a multimillionaire, explained that his neighborhood is “struggling with that lack of ability to grow revenues in anyway other than raising taxes, which actually…reinforces the concentration of poverty as people move out to escape those taxes.”

The cornerstone of Wolf’s campaign plan is a $1 billion special energy tax on the natural gas industry and a 188 percent income tax increase on Pennsylvania families and small businesses.
