The following is part of a series of real-time responses to the empty rhetoric made by Secretary Tom Wolf during tonight’s Pennsylvania Chamber Gubernatorial debate with Governor Tom Corbett.

JOBS AND ECONOMY

CLAIM:

Pennsylvania’s economy is not doing well under Governor Tom Corbett and has dropped from 7th to 49th in job growth.

RESPONSE:

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was 8.2 percent when Governor Tom Corbett was elected, and is 5.8 percent today.

Pennsylvania has added nearly 180,000 private sector jobs since Governor Tom Corbett has taken office.

Under Governor Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania has more people working in private sector jobs than at any other point in our state’s history.

According to Site Selection Magazine, Pennsylvania ranks first in the northeast and fourth in the country for new and expanding corporate projects.

Under Tom Wolf’s statistics, when Pennsylvania was ranked 7th in job creation under Governor Ed Rendell, Pennsylvania was losing jobs. The recession did not have nearly the impact on Pennsylvania as other states for a variety of factors. Click here for a primer from Politics PA.
