CORBETT-CAWLEY CAMPAIGN STATEMENT ON TOM WOLF'S LATEST MISLEADING TV AD

HARRISBURG, PA – The Corbett-Cawley campaign today released the following statement and breakdown addressing Secretary Tom Wolf's latest campaign ad, which much like the 30-second television ads financed by a $4.5 million bank loan during the primary, conveniently leave out the truth.

"Millionaire Secretary Tom Wolf is so desperate to hide the fact that he’s not paying his fair share of Pennsylvania taxes that he’s now running ads citing stories from early May to fact check an ad that just began airing in late July," stated Corbett-Cawley Communications Director Chris Pack. "He’s using carefully crafted language in his empty response to distract from the fact that he incorporated his company in Delaware so that he pays less in Pennsylvania taxes. If Wolf is so adamant that he’s not paying less than his fair share of Pennsylvania taxes, he should just go ahead and release his corporate taxes like he said he would. We just can’t trust millionaire Secretary Tom Wolf when he continues hiding and refusing to make good on his promises.”

Below is a claim by claim breakdown of Wolf's new ad with the Corbett-Cawley campaign's response.

********

CLAIM: “Have you seen Tom Corbett’s negative ad with this actress? It’s just not true and more of the same from Corbett.”

On Screen Newspaper Clippings: “outright false” Morning Call, 5/9/14; “deceptions” Factcheck.org 5/7/14

RESPONSE: Here's the ad he's referring to and along with it, supporting documentation. It just began airing this week. The two "stories" he cites are both from May on completely unrelated topics and ads aired before the primary.

Additionally, the Morning Call piece is written by an opinion columnist who, let’s just say, doesn't seem to have ever been a big fan of Governor Corbett. More on that here and here.

CLAIM: “Tom Wolf’s company is headquartered and files taxes right here in Pennsylvania.”

RESPONSE: We'll concede this statement (and never claimed otherwise), but not the truth. What's important to know here is that Secretary Wolf's company was incorporated in Delaware by none other than Tom Wolf, where it remains today. Take a look at the documents for yourself.

Additionally, Wolf has consistently used this as a cover and pointed to the fact his company is registered and pays taxes in 28 states. Great, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the Delaware loophole which significantly reduces one's tax burden, not necessarily eliminating it.

These distortions and blatant ignorance of the truth leaves to question, what else is Tom Wolf lying about while hiding behind his 30-second ads?

In February, Wolf said "I'll share whatever people like you want me to share, my personal tax returns, and the company information" and added "I'll be happy to share whatever anybody wants to see, that's been my practice throughout my business career."

Yet he's repeatedly refused to do so.

CLAIM: "And it’s Tom Wolf who will be the governor we need."

RESPONSE: We'll save you the book, but in short, no. No he's not. Returning to the tax-and-spend days of Wolf's old boss Ed Rendell is not the right path forward for Pennsylvania.

CLAIM: "He’ll make the gas companies pay up to fund our schools."

RESPONSE: Under Governor Corbett, Pennsylvania's investment in our public schools is at an all-time high, being increased every year of his term to more than $10 billion.

Additionally, the natural gas companies are reinvesting more in Pennsylvania than they ever did under Tom Wolf's boss Ed Rendell, paying $2.2 billion in state taxes since 2008 and $636 million in local impact fees since 2012.

Tom Wolf wants to take that money away from the communities earning that revenue for local projects and put it into Harrisburg's coffers to grow the size of government.

Furthermore, Wolf's entire plan with billions in new spending seems to be financed by this and a personal income tax increase. But the math is hazy, and leads to question, what other taxes is Tom Wolf going to raise to pay for the rest?

CLAIM: "Build a 21st Century infrastructure."

RESPONSE: Governor Corbett is already doing it, thanks. Last November, Tom Corbett signed a comprehensive transportation funding bill with bipartisan support of the legislature to invest an additional $2.3 billion per year in our roads, bridges and public transit.

CLAIM: "And restore manufacturing for the jobs we need today."

RESPONSE: More than 184,000 private sector jobs have returned to Pennsylvania since Governor Corbett took office and unemployment has fallen from 8.1% to 5.6%.

Meanwhile Tom Wolf has bragged about the fact his company's cabinets are made in Indiana, Indiana, while other products are sourced in Texas, Alabama, Florida and New Jersey. Fellow Democrat Rob McCord wasn't too fond of it either.

Speaking of McCord, he was the public sector unions first choice in the primary, before they were forced to settle for Tom Wolf and his open-shop company.

CLAIM: "Take a look at his plan for yourself."

RESPONSE: We have and it's nothing special, leaving out details about how he'd pay for all this new stuff.

CLAIM: "Tom Wolf, a fresh start for Pennsylvania."

RESPONSE: Tom Wolf has no real ideas for Pennsylvania's future beyond more spending and higher taxes, policies he learned all too well from his boss Ed Rendell. A false start? No thanks.
