County's share of gas drilling impact fees tops $500,000

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett, on Tuesday, announced allocations to the state's 67 counties, collected through impact fees from the drilling of natural gas.
The state will distribute about $225 million collected during calendar year 2013.
Lancaster County's share will be $504,835.83.
More than half the money collected goes to counties that have drilling wells within their borders. Lancaster County has no wells.
Since the impact fees were initiated three years ago, Lancaster County received $440,697.50 for calendar year 2011 and $438,455.68 for 2012.
All 67 counties get a share of the money, as do the Fish and Boat Commission, the Transportation Department, the Department of Environmental Protection and other state agencies that have some role in regulating or dealing with the drilling industry.
In areas where drilling occurs, state law mandates that the money can be spent only for such uses as fixing roads and building or repairing water and sewer infrastructure.
In counties without drilling, the money must be used to build or maintain greenways, recreational trails, open space, natural areas, conservation, beautification, heritage parks or water resource management.
