“Pennsylvania is going in the right direction,” states Governor Corbett. “We are positively moving forward. What we have done in balancing the budget – reducing our 4.2 billion dollar deficit when I took office without raising taxes – has allowed us to become much more attractive to businesses than we were before.”
Pennsylvania’s economy continues to improve under Governor Tom Corbett’s leadership. On Friday, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the state’s unemployment rate has dropped to 5.6 percent – a five-year low. Pennsylvania is also second in the nation in job creation for the month of May with the addition of 24,700 jobs – 21,700 which are in the private sector, the most in state history.
Corbett’s leadership has earned him praise from past Pennsylvania Governors Tom Ridge and Mark Schweiker, U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-03) and a multitude of community leaders. Below is a list of statements in response to Friday’s positive jobs report.

“Republican governors have the ideas that deliver results for their states, and it’s those ideas that are winning the fight for jobs and economic growth,” stated Republican Governors Association Chairman Chris Christie. “These reformers are leading the way, putting in place pro-jobs and pro-growth policies for one reason: They work. Some politicians just talk about creating jobs and reviving struggling economies, but Republican governors are actually doing it. The result is stronger, more prosperous states that work.”
