PENNSYLVANIA CHAMBER OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY STATEMENT ON LATEST POSITIVE PA JOBS REPORT
Total amount of private sector jobs at highest level ever
HARRISBURG, PA – Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry President and CEO Gene Barr today released the following statement in response to another positive jobs report for Pennsylvania under the Corbett-Cawley administration. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, the state’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.6 percent for the month of May – a five year low and far below the national average of 6.3 percent. Pennsylvania’s total amount of private sector jobs now stands at 5,078,000 -- the highest level ever.
“Pennsylvania has made significant progress over the last several years in creating an environment that promotes job growth and economic opportunity and this drop in the unemployment is evidence of that. Thanks to the leadership of Governor Corbett and the hard work of the members of the General Assembly, we’ve seen historic investments in our transportation system as well as K-12 education; significant reforms to our legal system; and a real commitment to reduce the cost of doing business on employers. These efforts, coupled with the governor’s pursuit to make Pennsylvania a world-wide leader in energy production, have laid the foundation for a very promising future.”
