Joyce Haas, vice chair of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, spoke heavily in support of Governor Tom Corbett at Sunday night's Bradford County Council of Republican Women annual dinner at the Towanda Country Club.

The guest speaker outlined several Republican party talking points on the natural gas industry, taxes, women's issues, education, and jobs in front of an audience filled with local and state politicians and Republican party supporters.

"You're all doing a great job in Bradford County," she said, "Every bit of support in Bradford County makes a difference in Harrisburg and will put Tom Corbett back in office."

She added, "Every vote here counts just as much as it does in Philadelphia."

Of the 18 members of the U.S. House of Representatives that PA holds, 13 are Republican, which Haas said shows Pennsylvania is "truly a Republican state."

Haas said women hold a respectable political presence in Bradford County, mentioning State Rep. Tina Pickett, who attended the dinner.

"Woman can give a different viewpoint and perspective," Haas said.

She said many of Corbett's staff cabinet members are women, seven of which have control of about 90 percent of the Governor's budget.

Although the Republican party in Pennsylvania is currently facing a 1.6 million voter deficit, Haas said Pennsylvania remains a Republican state, with control of the state Senate and House of Representatives. She said the Republican party is "not just for women but for both men and women."

Haas went on to speak in support of natural gas drilling in PA and Act 13, which allocates impact fee money to local municipalities that have natural gas related activity.

"Energy equals jobs," she said.

She concluded her speech with, "I'm proud everyone here is working together to fight back at Democrats."

Attending the dinner in a show of support were members of the Tioga County Council of Republican Women and numerous other out-of-county political groups.

"We try to be a good supporter of (the BCCRW) because they've been great to us," TCCRW member Dorothy Quimby said.

BCCRW President Nancy Crockett said the council is always searching for more members, who can get information on joining from Membership Chair Jan Kellogg at (570) 596-3311.
