The 2014 K’NEX Student STEM Design Challenge was held at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. The STEM Design Challenge encourages students to work as teams to answer a challenge. This year teams are challenged to create an environmentally friendly “people mover.”

Governor Corbett attended the event and spoke about how PA needs to continue being a leader in technology. “They are competing with their brains. They are competing with their ingenuity. They are competing with science, technology, engineering and math. But what really they are competing for is jobs in the future. That is what this is about.”

Students had two hours to complete the task. First Place won a $500 K’NEX Education shopping spree for the teacher and a Thunderbolt Strike Roller Coaster Building.
