CORBETT CAMPAIGN THANKS PA DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN JIM BURN FOR HIS STANCE ON CANDIDATE TAX DISCLOSURES

HARRISBURG, PA –
The Corbett-Cawley campaign today thanked Pennsylvania Democratic Chairman for his staunch support of the long-term public release of tax returns for candidates running for political office. Unfortunately, despite Democratic Chairman Jim Burn’s support for the release of tax returns in the past, he has completely failed at convincing his liberal Democratic candidates for governor to publicly release ten years of tax filings. Earlier today, Governor Tom Corbett was the first and only candidate to make his tax returns, now dating back to 2004, publicly available.

Chairman Burn’s notable support for the long-term release of taxes came in 2012 when he called on 2012 Presidential candidate Mitt Romney to publicly release his tax returns.

“Mitt Romney continues to betray the American people and his refusal to release his tax returns and give straight answers about his role at Bain Capital and his offshore bank accounts, makes people wonder what more is he hiding? Mitt Romney should take Rick Santorum's advice and come clean to the American people,” stated Burn in 2012.

Corbett Campaign Manager Mike Barley echoed the Democratic Chairman’s words in calling on the Democratic candidates running for office to publicly release ten years of tax returns.

“Like Democratic Chairman Jim Burn, we believe that the Democratic candidates for Governor continue to betray the Pennsylvania people for refusing to publicly release their tax returns,” stated Barley. “Specifically, as it relates to Secretary Tom Wolf, he continues to betray the people of Pennsylvania for refusing to give straight answers about his role at Wolf Organization when Pennsylvania taxpayers lost millions, and it makes us wonder, what more is he hiding? The Democratic candidates should take Democratic Chairman Jim Burn’s advice and come clean to the Pennsylvania people.”

In February, Wolf expressed his willingness to release his personal and corporate tax returns, stating at the WHYY Newsworks and the Philadelphia Business Journal 2014 Gubernatorial Forum, “I’ll share whatever people like you want me to share, my personal tax returns, and the company information.” He also added, “I’ll be happy to share whatever anybody wants to see, that’s been my practice throughout my business career.”
