High school students interested in agriculture or one of the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) have two new choices this summer.

Two Governor's Schools will open for a couple weeks - one at Penn State's main campus, and one at Lehigh University.

The news comes after one opened last year in Pittsburgh.

At one point, as many as eight of the schools opened every summer.

Tim Eller, spokesman for the state Department of Education, says schools like these could push the state forward.

"Pennsylvania's really dependent on the sciences, technology, engineering, and agriculture, and as those being very critical components to Pennsylvania's economy, the Governor believes that in restarting these Governor's schools, these are great areas to target to provide additional resources for students."

The schools will cost about $350,000, according to Governor Corbett's budget.

The first application deadline is April 18th.
