Gov. Tom Corbett wants Pennsylvania to spend more money on rape crisis services and domestic violence programs.

Corbett said Wednesday his budget proposal will call for increasing what the state spends on supporting emergency services such as a 24/7 hotlines, emergency shelters and financial aid, and victim advocacy from $13.9 million to $15.3 million.

Corbett will unveil his full budget proposal Feb. 4.

The proposal includes an extra $800,000 for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape, which distributes fundings among 50 rape crisis centers around the state, according to the governor's office.

That would bring PCAR's total state funding to more than $8.7 million. Those centers serve more than 30,000 people every year. They also run more than 25,000 school-based prevention programs and 3,000 community prevention programs, according to the governor's office.
