Computer Sciences Corp., a Virginia-based information technology services company, announced on Thursday that it will open a location in the Strip District next month, with plans to add 500 new jobs over the next three years.
Gary Budzinski, executive vice president and general manager for CSC's Global Infrastructure Services, said the company is developing a next-generation IT workforce to meet demands for cyber security, cloud computing and application modernization.
“With a mix of local IT talent and technically trained graduates, Pittsburgh provides an excellent recruiting pool for us to build a next-generation workforce,” Budzinski said, adding that Gov. Tom Corbett was instrumental in the company's decision.
Corbett said the company is projected to spend more than $14 million to acquire a 120,000-square-foot space to house its operations here. He said the company plans to move into a temporary space at 1350 Penn Ave. by mid-January.
A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development said CSC has been offered a package of incentives including a $2 million Pennsylvania First Grant, $1.5 million in job creation tax credits, $425,000 in guaranteed free training grants and a $1.5 million, 10-year loan from the state's Machinery and Equipment Fund.
Department spokeswoman Lyndsay Frank said CSC has tentatively accepted the package, but must still apply for the individual grants and loans.
CSC, which has its U.S. headquarters in Falls Church, Va., has 81,000 employees.
