BUILDING A STRONGER PA

Corbett-Cawley Campaign Endorsed by Pennsylvania Job Creators

HARRISBURG, PA – Governor Tom Corbett and Lt. Governor Jim Cawley released the following statement thanking the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry's bipartisan political action committee, ChamberPAC, for their endorsement of a pro-jobs administration that is putting Pennsylvania back on track:

“I am proud and honored to have again received the endorsement of Pennsylvania’s largest broad-based coalition of job creators. They recognize the hard work my administration is doing to spark our economy and that I have kept my promises to implement a ‘More Jobs, Less Taxes’ agenda. While there is still work to be done, Pennsylvania’s economy is growing and the private sector has created over 141,000 jobs since I took office," said Governor Tom Corbett.

Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley added, “Under Governor Tom Corbett’s leadership these past three years, we have reformed government, cut bureaucratic red tape, kept taxes low and revealed new opportunities for growth and job creation in energy. Representing the businesses who employ our dedicated workforce, the Chamber understands we cannot afford to go back to a tax-and-spend agenda that has failed us in the past, and continues to fail us in Washington, DC.”

ChamberPAC endorses Governor Corbett, Lieutenant Governor Cawley in 2014 election

HARRISBURG, PA, Dec. 10, 2013 – ChamberPAC, the political arm of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, today announced its endorsement of Gov. Tom Corbett and Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley to a second term in office.

“This dynamic gubernatorial ticket has kept the promises that they made four years ago as candidates to put the tax-and-spend policies of the past behind and reestablish Pennsylvania as a world economic leader,” PA Chamber President Gene Barr said.

“Since taking office in 2011, we have experienced on-time, fiscally responsible budgets that prioritize state government spending and wisely invest taxpayer dollars. The governor and lieutenant governor have also partnered with us and with pro-business lawmakers to enact initiatives that have stimulated private sector investment and encouraged job growth. And, they have proven to value the Commonwealth’s future business leaders and workers, as we are now spending more money on pre-K through grade twelve education than at any other time in state history.

Among the Corbett administration’s other achievements: enactment of a Marcellus Shale oversight law that allows Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry to thrive and contains some of the most stringent environmental regulations in the world; a landmark legal reform law that ended the unfair practice of joint and several liability; commonsense labor law reforms that preserve taxpayer-funded unemployment compensation for those who truly need it; and a host of tax system changes that offer clarity and predictability to businesses looking to invest and grow in the Commonwealth.

While these accomplishments have put Pennsylvania on more equal standing with other states for jobs and capital, more work lies ahead. The business community remains committed to lowering the state’s Corporate Net Income Tax rate, which at 9.99 percent is the highest effective CNI in the world when combined with the federal rate; and eliminating the cap on Net Operating Loss Carryforwards. Cost drivers such as billions of dollars in unfunded public pension liability and an antiquated prevailing wage law continue to strain budgets and make the Commonwealth uncompetitive. Addressing these problems requires support from a fiscally responsible governor who puts business and individual taxpayers first.

The PA Chamber also looks forward to continuing its work with the governor, lieutenant governor and pro-business awmakers on a popular effort to reform the state-run liquor system and offer consumers the choice and convenience they desire.

"Before the Corbett administration took office, Pennsylvania was at an economic crossroads and was quickly losing ground to other states with more competitive business climates,” Barr said. “Since that time, there has been a concerted effort to bring fiscal stability and economic prosperity back to the Commonwealth, and we know that this will continue in a second term. For these reasons, ChamberPAC proudly endorses the Governor Corbett and Lieutenant Governor Cawley ticket in 2014."
