PA 2nd in Natural Gas Production: “Pennsylvania continued its meteoric rise among shale gas-producing states in the first half of 2013, topping Louisiana to become the second largest producer in the country. The Keystone State, the heart of the Marcellus shale formation, produced 1.4 trillion cubic feet between January and June, trailing only Texas in output over that time.” (Philip Gruber, “Pa. Moves into Second Place in Gas Production,” Lancaster Farming, 08/31/13)

Creating Jobs and Reinvesting in Pennsylvania: “’Gov. Corbett is standing with the middle class – including the nearly 250,000 Pennsylvanians who work each day in the oil and gas industry and the tens of thousands of landowners who have been able to keep their family farm, send their children to school, and provide new opportunities to their families thanks to the responsible development of shale gas,’ Henderson said…” (Robert Vickers, “Corbett energy adviser defends shale policy as Democratic challenger proposes extraction tax,” Patriot-News, 09/04/2013)

Reinvesting in Pennsylvania: “While the benefit to the overall state economy can be seen in the jobs created by the industry, natural gas production has also bolstered state and local government finances. The natural gas industry has generated more than $1.8 billion in tax revenue and invested more than $500 million in rebuilding roads and bridges since 2006, in addition to $406 million in impact fees paid by gas drillers since last year.” (“Letter to Dem State Committee Opposing Fracking Moratorium,” Office of Rep. Marc J. Gergely (D-35), 07/15/2013)

“According to a recent economic analysis, the natural gas industry invested more than $12 billion in Pennsylvania in 2011, while supporting more than 200,000 good paying jobs.” (“Letter to Dem State Committee Opposing Fracking Moratorium,” Office of Rep. Marc J. Gergely (D-35), 07/15/2013)

Lower Utility Bills: “The Scranton Times-Tribune reports Pennsylvania’s boom in natural gas drilling has helped keep prices low for consumers. The paper cites data from UGI Penn Natural Gas. Despite a rate increase on June 1, the company says consumers’ bills should still be about a third lower than they were in 2008.” (Marie Cusick, “Shale Gas Boom Keeps Utility Bills Lower for PA Consumers,” State Impact PA, 07/08/2013)
