Gov. Tom Corbett delivered the final gift of the season on Monday to a nursing home resident as part of St. Barnabas Charities annual “Presents for Patients” program at Trees Manor in Pine.

The governor and First Lady Susan Corbett are honorary co-chairs of the program, which has provided gifts to 14,000 patients in nursing homes and residents of assisted living facilities this year. Susan Corbett joined her husband at the event

The Corbetts presented St. Barnabas resident Donnie Hersh, 56, with a gift package that included three DVDs of superhero movies, a ball cap and a large bag of baked cheese curls. St. Barnabas prepared the gift.

Hersh, who has cerebral palsy, has been a St. Barnabas resident for 33 years and serves as the facility's unofficial greeter to visitors, organizers said.

Corbett, a Shaler native, lamented the wide right kick by Kansas City placekicker Ryan Succop in Sunday's matchup against the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers victory ruined the playoff hopes of the 8-8 Steelers.

The governor said he plans to cheer for the Philadelphia Eagles in the postseason, “I guess, since Pittsburgh won't be there.”
