Governor Tom Corbett has issued a disaster emergency declaration in order to lift federal restrictions on carriers of heating oil and propane gas who have been hampered in making deliveries because of this week's frigid temperatures.
The declaration specifically lifts hours of operation limitations on drivers of commercial vehicles transporting propane gas and heating oil to avoid interruption of deliveries.
The maximum driving time is being extended from 11 hours to 14 hours. However, 10 hours of off-duty must still be taken between 14 hour shifts.
Drivers are also being exempted from the 60 hours per seven days driving rule.
The declaration was issued Friday but is retroactive to Thursday and will be in effect through Jan. 25.
