Corbett-Cawley Campaign Statement on Democratic Gubernatorial Forum - Pittsburgh

Democratic Candidates Offer Same "Higher Taxes, More Spending" Solutions

HARRISBURG, PA – Corbett-Cawley Campaign Manager Mike Barley released the following statement on today’s Democratic gubernatorial forum in Pittsburgh:

"Pennsylvanians got yet another look today at the Democratic candidates attempting to con them into more of the same big government agenda failing us in Washington. With President Obama, their mentor, set to visit Pittsburgh this week, it was no surprise to see the candidates engaged in a sprint to the extreme left to win over his support for who can tax and spend more of Pennsylvanians hard-earned money.”

“It’s a race Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz appears to be leading though, after last week she ditched the centrist charade and fully embraced her desire to bring the failed Obama agenda to Harrisburg. She will have a head start as an author of ObamaCare, adopting policies that jeopardized volunteer firefighters and increased healthcare premiums for families and small businesses. ObamaCare is now costing Pennsylvanians their doctors and their coverage, despite the ‘lie of the year’ that if you liked your plan you could keep it.”

“Congresswoman Schwartz and all of the Democratic candidates continue to prove they are too extreme, fighting for their party’s liberal special interests over the people of Pennsylvania. Governor Corbett will continue to fight for a ‘More Jobs, Less Taxes’ agenda that’s putting Pennsylvanians back to work.”

The National Journal Headline: “Democratic Congresswoman Breaks Up With Her Moderate Friends. Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania, a gubernatorial candidate, is trying to reestablish her liberal bona fides.” (Alex Roarty, “Democratic Congresswoman Breaks Up With Her Moderate Friends,” National Journal, 01/23/2014)

Ditches Moderate Charade: “Schwartz is the early front-runner in the Keystone State's gubernatorial primary. But she faces a handful of qualified opponents, all of whom could exploit the perception that she isn't liberal enough for the party's primary voters.” (Alex Roarty, “Democratic Congresswoman Breaks Up With Her Moderate Friends,” National Journal, 01/23/2014)

Lie of the Year – ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it’: “’If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," President Barack Obama said -- many times -- of his landmark new law. But the promise was impossible to keep…For all of these reasons, PolitiFact has named "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," the Lie of the Year for 2013. (Angie Drobnic Holan, “Lie of the Year: 'If you like your health care plan, you can keep it',” Politifact, 12/12/2013)

“Since the Obamacare law doesn't specifically carve out an exemption for them, fire departments where 50 or more people work – either as volunteers or officially as employees – are expected to provide health insurance for every one of them…'I can tell you right now we can’t afford it,' East Derry, Pennsylvania Fire Company Chief Edward Mann told the Patriot-News…Mann's concerns are likely to get at least some attention in Washington: He's also the state fire commissioner in Pennsylvania, where 97 per cent of fire departments are fully or mostly staffed by volunteers. That's the highest percentage in the U.S.” (David Martosko, “'A public safety disaster': Obamacare could force THOUSANDS of volunteer fire departments to close,” The Daily Mail, 12/09/2013)
