926 JOBS PROJECTED FOR PITTSBURGH DUE TO GAS BOOM

HARRISBURG, PA – Coming on the heels of further job growth across Pennsylvania under Governor Tom Corbett and Lt. Governor Jim Cawley’s leadership, a report released by the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) projects 926 manufacturing jobs coming to Pittsburgh by the year 2020 as a result of the natural gas boom in the Marcellus Shale region. Governor Corbett and Lt. Governor Cawley have long championed for creating an economic climate to attract energy companies to develop in Pennsylvania due to the direct and indirect jobs that will be created, such as those listed in the USCM report.

“Pennsylvania’s energy boom is creating a manufacturing renaissance, which is in no small part thanks to our administration’s less taxes, more jobs approach to encouraging development not just in the Marcellus Shale, but across our vast energy field,” stated Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley. “Not only are developers creating jobs within the industry, but the shale boom’s impacts are benefitting countless others in varying sectors thanks to Governor Corbett’s common sense philosophy.”

“Due to Governor Corbett’s less taxes, more jobs philosophy, natural gas energy companies are creating considerable demand for goods produced in Pennsylvania’s manufacturing industry,” stated David N. Taylor, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association. “As the Governor has said, Pennsylvania energy equals Pennsylvania jobs, and this report’s projection of thousands of additional jobs in our manufacturing areas is proof that Governor Corbett’s agenda is putting Pennsylvanians back to work.”

The USCM report credits the Marcellus Shale boom for creating an increased need for new pipeline and mining equipment that creates a demand for steel, iron, fabricated metals and machinery manufacturing industries.

Pennsylvania’s jobs outlook continues to improve under the Corbett-Cawley platform of “less taxes, more jobs.” Just last Friday, the Corbett-Cawley campaign announced that the state’s unemployment rate has dropped to 6.2 percent, the lowest level since 2008.

News of the improving unemployment earned Governor Corbett accolades from around Pennsylvania, including:
