Jim Cawley

Jim Cawley is a dedicated leader with a proven record of reform and innovation. Jim Cawley was inaugurated as the 32nd Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on January 2011.

In 2005, Jim was appointed to the Bucks County Board of Commissioners. As Commissioner, Jim established a solid record as a strong fiscal conservative, an innovator who integrates technology to save taxpayers millions of dollars, and a leader in public safety. In 2007, he was solidly re-elected as the leading vote-getter in Bucks County in a very competitive election.

In February, 2009, Jim formed and co-chaired the Bucks County's Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB). The board united influential members of the county community in the common goal of strengthening business initiatives, implementation and marketing.

As Bucks County Commissioner, Jim held the line on taxes for five consecutive years while increasing the county's bond rating to its highest level ever by improving the county's finances, implementing new technology, and cutting costs. Jim also believes that in order to have a competitive workforce, people need access to higher education. As Commissioner he worked to expand the Bucks County Community College by opening a Lower Bucks Campus and expanding the Upper Bucks Campus. He has improved public safety by opening a new state-of-the-art county 911 center and built a new fire training facility giving volunteer firefighters the training they need to protect the residents of Bucks County.

Jim's public service extends beyond his tenure as a county commissioner. He served as Chief of Staff to State Senator Tommy Tomlinson where he was responsible for the operations of the Harrisburg and Bucks County district offices. In addition, Jim was as a member of his local school board in Bristol Township where he voted against tax increases.

Jim has been active in charitable and civic affairs in Bucks County and is an advocate for environmental protection. He served on the County Commissioner’s Association of Pennsylvania's Energy, Environment & Land Use Committee as Vice Chairman. Jim is a former member of the board of directors for Lower Bucks Hospital, a former trustee of Bucks County Community College and a former Commonwealth trustee of Temple University.

He served as vice president of community relations for the Bucks County Council, Boy Scouts of America and as a member of the Board of Advisors for both St. Mary Medical Center and Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. Additionally, Jim is a member of the Bucks County Bar Association and is on the board of trustees for their Charitable Foundation. He was also on the board of directors for the Bucks County Transportation Management Association (TMA).

A graduate of Bishop Egan High School, Bristol Township, he graduated cum laude from Temple University's College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He received a law degree from Temple University School of Law.

Lieutenant Governor Cawley and his wife, Suzanne, have been married for 7 years and have one son, Nicky.
