Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett touted his plans to create jobs and improve the state's economy during a campaign pit stop Tuesday at a local vocational school.
Corbett, the state's attorney general, took a quick tour of the William F. Goodling Advanced Skills Center before speaking to an audience of businesspeople, politicians and others.
The Republican stopped at the Advanced Skills Center as part of a statewide tour to promote his economic development and jobs plan. He said developing a workforce to meet the demand of business is a key component of the plan to improve the state's economy.
The Advanced Skills Center is among the programs that helps accomplish that goal, Corbett said.
"I don't want to see Pennsylvania standing still," Corbett said. "I want to see us grow."
If elected in November, Corbett said he would partner with the business community to foster an environment that will spur the growth of existing businesses and make Pennsylvania more attractive to entrepreneurs.
His plan also includes a focus on spurring innovation, strengthening regional economies and making Pennsylvania globally competitive.
Corbett handily won the Republican primary election over state Rep. Sam Rohrer. He'll face Democratic Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato in the fall election.
Before speaking Corbett got a quick primer on the welding process and visited other areas of the Skills Center to learn more about the program.
He was preceded at the lectern by a variety of local officials involved in the Skills Center and business community.
The speakers generally praised the Skills Center for providing young people with an opportunity to learn skills and get family sustaining jobs.
