Attorney General Tom Corbett continues to lead all Democratic hopefuls in the race for Pennsylvania Governor. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey, conducted by the independent pollsters, shows Corbett with a double-digit lead over all three of his potential Democratic opponents in the race:
The latest Rasmussen Pennsylvania telephone survey shows Corbett leading former Congressman Joe Hoeffel by 51% to 29%, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato by 52% to 26%, and State Auditor General Jack Wagner by 49% to 28%. In all three pairings, at least 15% of voters are still undecided, but since Corbett leads all three by more than 15%, the race seems safe for the Republicans for the moment.
The Rasmussen survey show Corbett widening his lead since last month, when he held roughly two-to-one leads over four potential Democrats (one of whom has since dropped out) but earned less than 50% support in each potential contest. Corbett is also leading any potential GOP rivals by a wide margin, which is why the Rasmussen survey is concentrating on assessing his chances against leading Democrats.
Conservatives who feel they have a better candidate for governor should therefore get busy and promote his or her chances before the primary. Once the nomination is settled, they should then get behind the best candidate and support him, to prevent the sort of disaster we now face on the national scene.
