HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association (PFMA), Pennsylvania Convenience Store Council (PCSC), and the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Council (PPC) have endorsed Tom Corbett as their choice for Governor in the November 2, 2010 general election.
David McCorkle, President and CEO of PFMA, observed that Tom Corbett’s experience and performance as a teacher, Assistant District Attorney in Allegheny County, lawyer in private practice and as the Commonwealth’s appointed and twice elected Attorney General have prepared him well to serve as Governor.
“We believe that Tom Corbett will motivate Pennsylvanians to participate in shaping a new philosophy for managing the affairs of the state. During these challenging economic times, Tom Corbett has the vision and leadership to create a strong partnership between government and business to grow and develop Pennsylvania’s economy,” McCorkle said. Food Industry leaders will urge PFMA’s 1,100 corporate members who operate about 5,500 supermarkets, convenience stores and corner grocery stores to support Corbett’s campaign.
“I am pleased to be supported by the members of PFMA, the Pa Pharmacy Council and the Pa Convenience Store Council, “Corbett said. “Supermarkets, convenience and corner grocery stores are vital to Pennsylvania’s economy. I believe we must reduce the tax burden on job creators and small business owners, the backbone of our economy, in order to support our economic engine and move Pennsylvania toward prosperity.”
Because of Corbett’s record as Attorney General and his ideas for the future, he has also received the endorsements of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, National Federation of Independent Business, PEG PAC/Pennsylvania Business Council, the Pennsylvania Builders Association, the Pennsylvania Automotive Association, and many other statewide and regional organizations.
Retail food store sales account for $22.8 Billion annually in Pennsylvania. Supermarkets and convenience stores employ about 131,000 Pennsylvanians and pay associates over $2 billion in annual wages and benefits.
