Lancaster– Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett today announced his plan for supporting Pennsylvania’s Veterans Community and unveiled his state-wide Veteran’s for Tom Corbett coalition during a rally at the American Legion Post 34 in Lancaster.

“It is truly an honor to be joined by so many Pennsylvania heroes today, men and women, who have fought selflessly and lived so honorably.  I am proud to have their endorsement and to have such a strong network of support across Pennsylvania,” said Corbett.  “As Governor, I will work to ensure those who serve our country are never taken for granted and return home to opportunity.”

Tom Corbett’s policy for Supporting Pennsylvania’s Veterans Community will work to support and grow our active and veteran military personnel by:

  • Maximizing federal dollars
  • Protecting and funding educational incentives and opportunities to our soldiers
  • Supporting the families of those deployed to serve our state and country
  • Helping soldiers and veterans with job placement
  • Helping those effected by mental and physical ailments as a result of service to our state and country
  • Lobbying for Pennsylvania’s soldiers and veterans on the national level

“My policy will address the needs of our soldiers today, and the continued needs of our veterans even as the years that separate them from their service grows,” said Corbett.

Corbett will work to support today’s soldiers and grow the state’s military capabilities by fully supporting increasing Pennsylvania’s National Guard Force Structure, aiding Family Readiness Groups and Family Action Centers, tightening Pennsylvania’s version of the USERRA federal statute and proactively anticipating further BRAC reviews.

Corbett’s policy also addresses the needs of veterans such as expanding access to Veterans’ Homes, helping returning military members and veterans with job placement, standardizing county veterans operations and recognizing Pennsylvania’s diverse veteran population.

“As Governor, just as I’ve done as Attorney General I will always remember the importance of honoring our veterans,” concluded Corbett.
