QUAKERTOWN — State Attorney General Tom Corbett's campaign for governor picked up a key small business endorsement recently from the 14,000-member Pennsylvania chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business. NFIB member and Perkasie contractor Brooke Rush said years of record spending, tax increases and expensive mandates have taken a toll on Pennsylvania small business owners and working families. He said NFIB members believe that as governor, Tom Corbett will lead Pennsylvania in a new direction.
“Runaway spending, high taxes and burdensome regulations have made Pennsylvania one of the least competitive states in the nation,” said Rush, who serves as a member of NFIB’s political action committee, the Pennsylvania Save America’s Free Enterprise (SAFE) Trust, which made the announcement. The endorsement is based on positions taken on key small business issues including healthcare, taxes, labor and regulatory issues.
“Despite these tough economic conditions, small business owners still believe Pennsylvania’s best days lie ahead. But our jobs recovery only can begin when state government breaks with the failed, tax-and-spend policies of current administration. Tom Corbett is our best chance to get Pennsylvania back on the right track.
“As a private-practice attorney who ran his own law firm and as a business executive for a Fortune 100 company, Tom Corbett clearly understands what it takes to create jobs and attract jobs to Pennsylvania. He has outlined a bold economic agenda that would make any small business owner bullish about Pennsylvania’s future."
Rush said today’s endorsement puts considerable grassroots support behind Corbett’s campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls.
According to NFIB polling data, small business owners and their employees make up about 43% of registered voters in America. NFIB will utilize its extensive grassroots network in Pennsylvania to help turn out the influential small business voting bloc on Election Day.
“Small business is the heart and soul of Pennsylvania’s economy," said NFIB/PA State Director Kevin Shivers. "NFIB members appreciate Tom Corbett’s commitment to Pennsylvania’s entrepreneurs and family-run businesses. The centerpiece of the Corbett plan is real and lasting tax relief and controlling the rate of growth in government spending. He also believes in finding ways to reduce lawsuit abuse and eliminate frivolous claims. And he believes in removing regulatory barriers that are crushing job creators and keeping Pennsylvania from competing on a level playing field with other states."
