Kennett Square – Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett spoke about the important role tourism plays in Pennsylvania’s economy as he toured Longwood Gardens. With over a million visitors to the commonwealth each year, tourism has a large economic impact on Pennsylvania.
“Tourism is one of our state’s leading industries. It generates over $28 billion dollars in revenue each year,” said Corbett. “It is time for the state to be a partner in facilitating job growth and encourage industries, like tourism, to continue to expand and support good paying jobs for families across the commonwealth.”
With the wealth of resources around Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett feels the commonwealth has so much to offer, especially for future generations.
“For far too long, our young people have been leaving the state to look for jobs elsewhere, we can’t let that happen,” said Corbett. “That is why I am running for Governor, so our children and grandchildren don’t have to go out of state to find work because they will have greater opportunities here.”
Tom Corbett is determined to revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy. He knows people around the state have been hit hard by the recession. But with every challenge comes great opportunity and Corbett’s plan will work to get our economy back on track.
Supporting the tourism industry is something Corbett feels can boost our state economy as a whole. Across the nation, states that rank highest in tourism rates also have thriving businesses, growing cities and strong communities.
“As I look around Longwood Gardens, it is a beautiful reminder of what we have to offer here in Pennsylvania,” said Corbett. “I will work to make sure tourism grows, prospers and continues to be an important part of our economy.”
Tom Corbett has been personally visiting businesses and attractions like Longwood Gardens to learn firsthand the issues facing business owners. He has discussed with business leaders and employees the importance of keeping jobs in Pennsylvania and making sure we see growth in our jobs market.
Longwood Gardens is one of Pennsylvania’s premiere tourist destinations. Located on 1,050 acres of gardens, woodlands and meadows, Longwood Gardens attracts over 880,000 visitors every year and employs 400-full and part-time employees. With over 11,000 types of plants and more fountains than any other garden in the country, Longwood Gardens is Chester County’s largest tourist attraction.
