Harrisburg - Today former Governor Mark Schweiker announced his endorsement of Attorney General Tom Corbett to be Pennsylvania's next Governor.

Schweiker cited Corbett's unwavering dedication to public service as a prosecutor, teacher and member of the National Guard, which make him a well-rounded candidate for governor.

"Tom has developed a record of accomplishment and a lifetime of experience that indicates he will be a highly successful governor.  Equally important, Tom has already begun to layout innovative plans for moving Pennsylvania forward," Schweiker stated.  "This includes his well thought out ideas for turning Pennsylvania into a world energy supplier as well as his ideas for cutting waste from the state's budget.  This proves to me that Tom knows exactly what it will take to quickly put Pennsylvania back on the road to economic recovery and financial stability."

Governor Schweiker joins former Governors Tom Ridge and Dick Thornburgh in supporting Tom Corbett for Governor.

Governor Schweiker emphasized that he looks forward to playing an active role in the Corbett for Governor Campaign.

Statement from the Honorable Mark Schweiker

Today I would like to announce my endorsement of Attorney General Tom Corbett to become Pennsylvania's next Governor of Pennsylvania.

I believe Pennsylvania is at a critical point in our state's development.   It is imperative that the next Governor is someone with the experience and vision to turn our state around economically, someone with the integrity and credibility to help restore the trust that has been lost in our state government, as well as someone truly committed to protecting every penny of taxpayer's hard-earned money.  I believe there is no one that fits this profile more perfectly than Tom Corbett.

Clearly, as Attorney General, Tom Corbett has earned the deep respect of the families of Pennsylvania.  His unmatched efforts to expose and eliminate corruption, his outstanding record of fighting drugs and violent crimes in our neighborhoods, and his remarkable success tracking down and convicting child predators all contributed to Tom receiving more votes in last November's election than any other Republican in Pennsylvania's history.   But I believe this only tells part of the Tom Corbett story.

To say that Tom has made a career of public service to the people of Pennsylvania is an understatement.  Tom has been a 9th grade teacher in our public school system.  He served Pennsylvanians in the National Guard for almost 14 years.  He's been a tough-on-crime County Prosecutor, and a highly respected United States Prosecutor for Western Pennsylvania.  And Tom has been our states Attorney General for seven years.

Certainly, Tom has developed a record of accomplishment and a lifetime of experience that indicates he will be a highly successful governor.  Equally important, Tom has already begun to layout innovative plans for moving Pennsylvania forward.  This includes his well thought out ideas for turning Pennsylvania into a world energy supplier as well as his ideas for cutting waste from the state's budget.  This proves to me that Tom knows exactly what it will take to quickly put Pennsylvania back on the road to economic recovery and financial stability.

For all of the reasons above I am pleased to endorse Tom Corbett as the next Governor of Pennsylvania and share his vision for making this Commonwealth a great place to work, live and raise a family.
