Altoona – Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett today announced a key component of his economic development and jobs plan at INRange Systems, a medical device manufacturer located in Altoona, Pa.
At the facility Corbett detailed “Expanding Pennsylvania’s Economy through Innovation,” a key component of his plan. In the coming weeks, Corbett will be traveling the state detailing separate aspects of his seven-point economic development and jobs plan, which includes:
- Expanding Pennsylvania’s Economy Through Innovation
- Reforming Pennsylvania’s Jobs Climate
- Strengthening Pennsylvania’s Regional Economies
- Growing Small Business in Pennsylvania
- Harnessing Entrepreneurial Leadership from Higher Education
- Developing a World-class Workforce
- Expanding Pennsylvania Worldwide
“Creating and maintaining an environment in which good, family-sustaining jobs can grow is critical to getting Pennsylvania back on track,” said Corbett. “Pennsylvanians have been hit hard by the recession and our state’s record unemployment numbers show the full impact of this downturn on our families. I believe it is time to restore the commonwealth’s rightful position in the global marketplace by partnering with business leaders to build bipartisan and strategic job creation policies that will secure Pennsylvania’s future.”
Following a tour of INRange Systems, Corbett met with area business leaders and INRange employees to discuss his plan to revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy through innovation. The highlights of the plan include:
- Build a 4G broadband network as a key enabler of economic growth;
- Develop growth capital and public private partnership opportunities, including plans to incentivize research and development, grow venture capital opportunities, streamline state government operations and empower the Governor’s Action Team to assist job creators.
- Build a sustainable green infrastructure;
- Harness consumer-led innovation to incubate and grow emerging companies; and
- Manage needed infrastructure growth across all industry sectors.
“For Pennsylvania to compete at a world class level with regions like the Silicon Valley and Boston, we need to expand innovation to attract broad industry sectors and new jobs,” Corbett continued. “I am determined to be a partner with private industry and bring the leadership to Harrisburg necessary to accomplish these goals. We must be focused on creating jobs and welcoming employers to Pennsylvania, and as the next Governor, I will work to get the job done.”
Tom Corbett has been personally visiting businesses across the state that are vital to Pennsylvania’s economy. INRange systems, Inc., embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that will help make Pennsylvania a success in the global economy. INRange Systems, Inc. is headquartered in Altoona, Pa. It commercialized its remote medication management technology, called EMMA®, in August of 2008. The technology can be wirelessly controlled by a pharmacist and enable patients to manage medications in a home setting. Because the technology has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, a patient is not required to have a medical professional present for medication disbursement. In May 2009, INRange was named a Red Herring North American Top 100 Award winner. INRange Systems, Inc. employs 21 people and assembles 100 percent of its products in Pennsylvania.
