Enola – Republican candidate for governor Tom Corbett visited Central Penn College today and spoke with students about the importance of keeping jobs in Pennsylvania. Corbett is determined to revitalize our economy and restore Pennsylvania’s place in the global marketplace.
“The students of today are the ones who will make Pennsylvania a better place tomorrow,” Corbett said. “You are the ones who can help change the jobs climate in the Commonwealth.”
With Pennsylvania consistently ranking at the bottom of every job creation indicator and near the top of every tax burden list, Corbett feels we can’t waste anymore time lagging behind other states.
“I believe it is time to restore the commonwealth’s rightful position in the global marketplace by partnering with entrepreneurs and business leaders to build job creation policies that will secure Pennsylvania’s future,” said Corbett.
During the town hall meeting, Corbett spoke with students of all ages, from traditional college students to adult students who are seeking to increase their education. Central Penn College is a career-oriented school that provides accelerated degrees that funnel students right into the workforce.
Under Tom Corbett’s Workforce Development Plan, aligning education with opportunity is critical to ensuring college graduates have a job waiting for them once they leave school. The plan calls for connecting the education and business communities to identify the jobs that are currently needed and make sure students are ready to fill them.
“Central Penn is a great example of preparing our students for highly skilled, well paying jobs,” said Corbett. “Central Penn designs its curriculum around the employment needs of the private sector and works with them to find jobs for their graduates.”
Corbett says with the great wealth of resources in Pennsylvania, from agriculture, to technology to the emerging Marcellus Shale field, there is no reason to lose our young people to other job markets.
“Too many of our young people are leaving Pennsylvania to find jobs elsewhere,” said Corbett. “We can’t let that happen. We need to ensure the jobs are here so our recent college graduates stay and work in Pennsylvania.”
Central Penn College is a private, residential co-ed college that offers a wide variety of practical, high-quality, career focused programs. Located in Enola, it serves approximately 1,200 traditional-age residential and non-residential students and working adults across central Pennsylvania.
